? or !

In the next big debate to consume the fickle Ugandan public mind, i will firmly be on the side of those proposing the legalisation of the oldest profession known to man.

shall we draw lots?

It's defly '!', if not '!!!' for me. But let's not go there. Can I predict that this particular post will generate tens of comments, all of them full of huff and puff. You do this intentionally, no?

Yeah, this post is going platinum.

Legalize it. Not because people ought to be encouraged to go whoring instead of having wholesome and rewarding relationships, but because we should not consume government resources arresting and holding people for being pathetic.

Legalize it. But why stop there? What about when women need to get their groove on, where are the male hookers? Legalize it, make them get hygiene checks and HIV tests, and let's go. Uganda would get a whole other kind of tourism, I can guarantee that... It's up to you to decide if that's a good thing.

If it is legalized and regulated, there will be quality control, too. The road from my office to the taxi stage turns into a ho stroll after nine, and even if the concept of prostitution doesn't offend you enough, the sight of people attempting to sell sex and then being so careless and shabby and cavalier about their personal appearance (and I suspect, personal smell) is downright immoral. If you are going to be a hooker, the least you could do is jog, shave and shower! Makes me sick.

I say a BIG, BIG, BIG no! I don't want my sister to become a 'professional' prostitute. I don't want to find out that the girl i sat next to in class has gone into prostitution because the going got tough. Legalising prostitution? NO, NO, NO!!!

@D,
this vice will not go away, whether it b those on the streets or young gals sleeping with older men 4 material benefit - cross generational sex n all - whh in my book is prostitution?
we might as well work at controlling it and making it work 4 us e.g taxation, disease prevention, controlled working hours and places etc

Country boyi, its not as if girls are out there waiting for prostitution to be legalised before they can jump right. Somebody who is inclined to become a prostitute will with or without legislation.

The legal and the moral will always conflict on this. Legalisation will not take away the social stigma and such.
